The Starting Point of a Successful Project

The Starting Point of a Successful Project
The Fundraising Fundamentals by Erica Schilling, Vice President Sales & Operations

More Than Raising Money

Fundraising is one of the most critical parts of the pre-construction phase. Without the right strategy, even the strongest ideas can stall before they ever come to life. At MMTH, we don’t just help you raise funds, we help you turn vision into reality.

I know what it takes to build a great athletics program. Being part of a former athletics administration, I’ve been on the other side of the table. I’ve had to balance ambition with budgets, answer to leadership and boards, and work to connect alumni, donors, and communities to a shared vision. And now, I get to connect with people on the other side to help them reach their goals and create the best sports facility possible.

As Vice President of Business Development at MMTH, I lead a team built on connection, energy, and trust. My role is simple: help clients see what’s possible and build the excitement needed to get there. We meet people where they are, listen to their goals, and stay beside them every step of the journey.

At its core, fundraising is what transforms ideas into actionable projects. It’s where design, budget, and strategy intersect—and that’s where MMTH thrives.

MMTH is Built for Fundraising

Fundraising works best when it’s rooted in real-world experience.

We understand what our clients are up against because we’ve been there. Whether you’re working in K–12, collegiate athletics, or a municipal setting, you’re trying to enhance the experience of everyone who uses your space—student-athletes, fans, families, and the broader community.

Our job is to help you do that realistically.  We know budgets matter. We know upgrades have to be defensible. And we know every project has stakeholders to answer to. That’s why we help clients think strategically about what will create the most impact, stay disciplined with numbers, and align every dollar with purpose.

We take your ideas, help you find the funds by generating excitement, and transform ideas into actionable projects. Need new turf for your fields? How about a new locker room or sports complex? Not sure where to start for your fundraising campaign? Missing marketing materials? We’ve got you covered.

What We Do and How We Do It

Fundraising at MMTH is hands-on, collaborative, and creative. When clients bring us a list of needs and wants, we don’t just price it—we MMTH-ize it.

We bring our creative team into the process early, pairing design renderings with real numbers so donors can clearly see what their support makes possible. Those visuals, combined with thoughtful pricing and strategy, turn concepts into something real, and we know that tangible projects generate momentum.

From there, we help map out a path forward. That includes:

  • Identifying potential donors and community partners
  • Exploring non-traditional donations, like materials or services
  • Guiding the formation of volunteer or donor boards so no one carries the weight alone
  • Helping clients tell a compelling story backed by real analytics and community impact

When people understand why a project matters and who it benefits, they want to be part of it.

Donor Engagement Drives Results

Fundraising succeeds when a project’s purpose is seen, understood, and felt. When you start a project, whether it’s locker rooms, new turf, or an entirely new sports complex, we make the purpose visible and real through clear visuals and storytelling. We show the vision, the impact, and the improvements it brings to your community because we don’t just explain the need, we bring it to life. Excitement is everything. Donors don’t just give to projects, they give to purpose.

We help clients show how their facilities will elevate experiences, strengthen communities, and create long-term value.

By clearly laying out impact and opportunity, fundraising becomes less about asking and more about inviting people into something meaningful.

Every element has a budget attached, and every opportunity moves the project closer to the finish line. When donations offset costs, those savings can be reinvested into the space itself, amplifying the impact.

Strategy That Stays Grounded

Great fundraising isn’t about overselling, it’s about smart planning. We help clients stay realistic, stay accountable, and stay within budget while still aiming high. Through thoughtful design, disciplined cost control, and well-executed fundraising campaigns, we help teams reach goals without compromising vision.

No matter who from MMTH is sitting across the table, clients get the same consistency, the same energy, and the same commitment. We’ll go wherever the relationships take us, because the impact of this work can’t always be measured in dollars alone.

How We’ve Helped

MMTH supported the City of Wichita’s fundraising efforts by equipping them with the tools donors need to say yes. From renderings and a virtual tour to brochures and campaign materials, we helped transform concepts into a clear, compelling vision that resonated with the community.

Through strategic planning and community-focused storytelling, Silver Lake leveraged MMTH’s expertise to tackle fundraising with intention. Marketing materials and a transparent fundraising tracker helped showcase the value of the proposed improvements—turning community interest into meaningful support.

Bringing It All Together

Fundraising sets the standard for your entire project. It determines what’s possible, how far you can go, and how meaningful the final result will be. We’re sports people. We understand facilities, budgets, and the power of community. And we know how to help ideas take shape, gain support, and come to life.

When you fundraise with MMTH, you’re not just raising money, you’re building momentum.
