Protect Your Athletic Image

Protect Your Athletic Image
The Importance of Field Maintenance by Nick Stringer, Vice President Sales & Operations

Winning Starts From The Ground Up

I’ve seen a lot of college programs up close, and one thing is for sure: your field says a lot about your program.

Fields are not just playing surfaces; they’re recruitment tools, revenue drivers, and the stage for unforgettable moments. Every time a recruit steps on that field or a game is broadcast on national TV, that surface represents your program. Protecting it means committing to consistent, professional maintenance.

Synthetic turf fields are a major investment for athletic departments. With year-round schedules, multiple teams sharing the same surface, and the pressure of national visibility, your fields have to perform every single time.

Maintenance isn’t optional—it’s essential.

Infill Migration Issues
Matting and Seam Issues
Fiber Degradation

My team and I have seen what happens when fields aren’t maintained properly. Seams start to separate, infill compacts, and the surface hardens. The play becomes inconsistent, and worse, it becomes unsafe.

We perform GMAX testing on collegiate fields to measure surface impact—when that number climbs, it means the field has lost its ability to absorb shock. In other words, when a player hits the ground, they’re taking that hit themselves instead of the turf doing its job.

Maintenance isn’t just about looks or longevity, it’s about player safety, program reputation, and protecting a multi-million-dollar asset.

Consequences of Neglect

  • Competitive disadvantage: Poor field conditions affect both play and perception—no coach wants to bring recruits onto a field that looks neglected.

  • Costly downtime: Emergency repairs disrupt schedules and eat into budgets.

University of Kansas

The University of Kansas needed new baseball and softball fields that could match the pace of their programs, day-in, day-out, from practice to game day. We removed and replaced the synthetic turf at Hoglund Park and Arrocha Ballpark, delivering surfaces built for consistency, safety, and performance. The result: refreshed facilities that elevate both baseball and softball, and reflect the standard KU Athletics expects every time they take the field.

Our maintenance services include:

  • Free Field Evaluation
  • Field Cleaning & Grooming
  • Turf Repairs
  • Field Markings Application
  • Weeding
  • Antimicrobial Treatment
  • GMAX Field Safety Testing
  • Drainage Scoping
  • Drainage Rooting
  • Infill Redistribution

Every time we install a new collegiate field, we provide training and tools for the in-house facilities team, so they know exactly how to keep their surface in peak condition between our visits. I always tell schools: it’s not just about having the best field—it’s about keeping it that way.
